WOODLAND MANAGEMENT
Working With Nature, Not Against It
The woodlands at Blannicombe are a defining feature of the estate, shaping both the character of the shoot and the wider environment.
Managing these areas requires a careful and considered approach. Selective thinning is used to encourage strong, healthy growth while allowing natural regeneration to take place. Native species are prioritised, helping to maintain resilience and support biodiversity across the woodland.
Allowing light to reach the woodland floor is a key part of this process. It encourages the growth of ground flora, which in turn supports insects, birds and small mammals. These interconnected systems form the foundation of a healthy woodland environment.
Rides are maintained not only to support the shooting but also to create corridors for wildlife. These open areas provide space for movement, feeding and nesting, contributing to the overall balance of the estate.
Woodland management is long term work, requiring patience and consistency. The decisions made today will shape the estate for years to come, and we take that responsibility seriously.
